Air Transportation of Dangerous Goods – from a Different Angle

2016. november 15. 10:03

Between 24 and 28 October, staff involved in controlling the air transportation of dangerous goods went into details of air transport at the Pécel facility of the Disaster Management Training Center. The training course was funded by Norway Grants.

The objective of ICAO TI/IATA DGR development training is to provide participants with more details of the security aspects of the air transport of dangerous goods. The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) intends to improve the security of international civil aviation and to encourage the development of civil air transport in order to enable the parties concerned to meet air transport rules and requirements safely, regularly, efficiently and economically. The IATA (International Air Transport Association) also intends to increase the security of air transport. Both organizations have standardized the relevant forms and the regulatory system. Their common objective is to ensure that citizens can use air carrier services even more safely, backed up by seamless and precise administration.

Realized through Norwegian funding, the primary aim of the training course was to acquaint disaster management staff with IACO requirements from a different angle, including different aspects, focussing on IATA systems. During the five-day training course, the trainers mainly endeavored to increase the knowledge base of disaster management staff involved in controlling the air transportation of dangerous goods using the more practical IATA system. They discussed the categorization, identification, and packaging of dangerous goods, as well as the signage and labelling of packages. Mention was also made of special requirements, as well as certain restrictive measures. The development training course ended with a written and oral examination, passed by all participants, who were granted a certificate thereof.
